Crystals for Healthy Skin and Liver

Crystal for the Skin

Aventurine is a multipurpose crystal for skin ailments. If you submerge the crystal in water overnight, you can wash your skin and hair with the energetically charged water to help with acne, allergies, flaky skin, dandruff, hair loss and many other skin irritations. It also helps heal wounds.

Love your Liver

As the days gradually become longer and warmer it is really important to kick start our health for the increased activity that the sunny weather will promote.  We will want to go out walking, working hard in the garden, take exercise to tone up for that lovely  swimwear we bought in the sales and of course Spring cleaning.  Our bodies respond to this by mobilising the eliminative organs to detox the accumulated waste of a sedentary Winter.

While the colon, kidneys, lungs and skin all play a major role in this important cleansing process, it is the liver that is most in focus now as springtime energies stimulate the liver to cleanse the blood and internal organs of impurities. These impurities may be due to fatty, processed or undigested foods, a deficiency in enzymes, or environmental toxins including heavy metals, drugs, poisonous chemicals, polluted air and contaminated water. When the body is overburdened with toxins, the liver may be stressed causing symptoms such as allergies, headaches, nausea, irritability, foggy thinking, muscle tension, skin eruptions, itching and fatigue.

In women, PMS, fibroids and endometriosis are signs of liver stress, since the liver must process excess estrogens out of the bloodstream.

Spring is the best time to do the liver-gallbladder flush, so make an appointment with Catherine, our natural health practitioner to get this underway.

Crystals for the Liver:

AmethystEither Amethyst  or Citrine can be used to energise water to enhance  liver function.  Some suggest Malachite but this must never be placed directly in water to be ingested as it becomes toxic in that form.

Metaphysics Foundation Course Review

A review of the Metaphysics Foundation Course I recently attended.

metaphysics
mɛtəˈfɪzɪks/
noun

  1. the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.
“they would regard the question of the initial conditions for the universe as belonging to the realm of metaphysics or religion”
    • abstract theory with no basis in reality.
“his concept of society as an organic entity is, for market liberals, simply metaphysics”

I signed up to attend this course with Jane Offer from The Purple Dragonfly and all I can say is WOW, in capital letters.

I have been involved with spiritual growth and development for sometime, most of which has been self taught through reading and online courses   I have attended a few face to face courses, but never anything quite so engrossing or attention grabbing as what Jane offers in her Metaphysics Foundation Course.

From the first session, I was hooked.  Learning about and being able to be involved in live demonstrations of mind over matter.   When 4 ladies can lift me out of a chair above waist level with nothing more than 2 fingers each, it is a mind blowing experience.  We know this is possible, but to be part of the experience, it just changes your whole mindset to that next level.

The knowledge that Jane brings to her courses is outstanding. Jane and her husband David have been in the industry for many many years and their skills can only truly be appreciated when experienced first hand. The Purple Dragonfly

The detail in the handouts that we received is extensive and full of value.  I can honestly say that I am truly looking forward to the upcoming Intermediate Metaphysics Course and finally the Advanced Metaphysics Course that is offered by Jane, owner of The Purple Dragonfly.

I can highly recommend this course if you are wanting to develop your own personal intuitive skills, ability to read aura’s, learn how to work with crystals and wands and much much more.

Jane and David, thank you so much for coming into my life.

If you have not connected with The Purple Dragonfly on Facebook yet, please go to their fan page and give them a “LIKE”.

Fondest and best wishes

Sodalite is the Crystal for Truth Seekers

Crystals are a fantastic source of support that are easily available, inexpensive and simple to use.

‘Hmm’, you say, ‘how can a bit of rock help in any way?’

In the early days, my thoughts exactly.  Some nonsense dreamed up by someone who had a lot of rocks in their garden – even maybe in their head – that could not possibly help anyone.  But me being me, I looked into it; after all, if people believed it, who was I to say ‘Rubbish’ without investigation.

The Purple DragonflyI had crystal healing, researched the science behind vibration and frequencies with the growing quantum information that was becoming available and began to see the logic in the power of crystals.  Now, I use them regularly for many different purposes.

Sodalite – Description:

Beautiful blue Sodalite is a crystal that has a strong vibration which focuses our attention on the qualities of idealism and truth.  Its energy helps us to live up to our own ideals and ideas about the nature of truth and is particularly helpful in aiding the development of intuition.   Sodalite is laced with white inclusions of Calcite which connects the higher levels of consciousness promoting our connection to our inner knowing.

Sodalite is commonly found in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Namibia, Russia and Tanzania

Uses of Sodalite:

When we need to find the core truth in any situation we can use Sodalite to encourage us forward to honour and speak our truth gently, without force.  It helps us stand up for our beliefs by enhancing the self-expression and confidence necessary for the Truth Seeker, as often our truth will be misunderstood or not accepted by others.   People are not being difficult when they challenge us, it is merely that  it can be difficult to accept another’s opinion especially when it is not aligned our own.  It is comfortable to remain static in our thoughts because we fear that if we have to change one way of thinking it will naturally affect everything we believe. This is living in an unconscious state of being; we like in our comfort zone, to know where we stand, even if we don’t like the view.   The Truth Seeker lives outside those boundaries in a conscious state and is the instigator of change.

Sodalite works with two Chakras; the Throat and the Third Eye combining order and calmness to the mind encouraging rational thought, objectivity, truth and intuition with the ability to speak this truth clearly and concisely.  It helps us to trust our own judgment by enhancing self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-trust and to fearlessly step out on the adventure by releasing old conditioning and programming of the past which have no further purpose.

On an esoteric level Sodalite is considered a stone of awakening as it stimulates the Third Eye through the Pineal Gland.   This will guide us on our spiritual path by opening the subconscious mind and helping us to see the symbols and messages being presented to us constantly for guidance and direction.

In our physical life Sodalite encourages structure and is useful in finding efficient ways of dealing with daily tasks and problems. It eases fear as it rises up in new situations or re-creations of old negative patterns, so that familiar feeling of panic that would normally turn us away from a situation, seeps away leaving structured thinking to successfully work it out.

Sodalite is linked to the Moon and the Elements of Water and Air.  The Moon is The Purple Dragonflythe feminine energy of creative thinking, seeing the hidden in the obvious. It allows us to see the symbolism clearly and to think ‘outside the box’ with clarity and structure.   Both Water and Air flow and move freely and when our thoughts are free to flow we have no restriction either.  Think of the gentleness of all three of these, Moon, Water and Air, but also see the power they each have; the Moon moves the tides sometimes creating floods, Water can break free with devastating results when restricted and Air can become a hurricane.  Our thoughts can become equally strong and damaging to our spirit when they are confined, curtailed or restricted.

Ways to incorporate Sodalite:

  1. Choose a suitable Sodalite crystal and carry it with you preferably against your skin
  2. Wear a bracelet or necklace made of Sodalite
  3. Choose a Sodalite crystal tree, pyramid or other shape as an ornament to enhance your living space.
  4. Make a Sodalite Elixir

Make an Elixir:

Sodalite Elixir is made by the Indirect Method as Sodalite contains Aluminium and therefore should not be placed directly in the water used to make the Elixir.

Indirect Method:

Materials:

  • A small glass bowl
  • A larger glass bowl
  • A clear lid or plastic wrap
  • Rainwater, natural spring water, non-carbonated mineral water or tap water

Method:

  • Place the cleansed Sodalite crystal in the small glass bowl and stand this inside the  large glass bowl.
  • Fill the large bowl with enough water to raise the level above the crystal in the inner bowl.
  • Stand in the sunlight or moonlight for several hours. If this is outside cove with a lid or plastic wrap.
  • Decant the water into a glass bottle.
  • Top up with a preservative such as apple cider vinegar, vegetable glycerine or brandy (for adults only).  This is the Mother Tincture and is used to create the remedy.
  • Add 7 drops of the Mother Tincture to pure water in a 15ml dropper bottle and add a little more suitable preservative.
  • For best results, take three to four drops of the gem elixir under your tongue, three times daily for at least a month. Or take three to four drops of the elixir in a glass of water three times a day.

Note: Doubling the dose does not double the effects as Gem elixirs are designed to be taken in small doses. Take the elixir consciously, pause for a moment and thank the spirit of the stone for its help.

Astrology and Numerology linked to Sodalite:

Sodalite connects to the Sun Sign Sagittarius and the numerical influence of 4.

Sagittarius encourages a curious, open and energetic mind; it is an adventurer with philosophical view searching for the meaning of life with optimism and enthusiasm.

Number 4 is the number of organisation, tenacity and focus.  It offers support, encouragement and inner-strength, enabling us to do what we need to do and achieve our goals with diligence and proficiency.

Sagittarius combined with Number 4 creates a force to be reckoned with; strong, structured yet fluid, curious and free.

Animal Totem – Crocodile

Crocodile has lived on this planet since prehistoric times and reminds us that we are infinite beings with a spirit that survives eternally.   Due to its long survival on the planet, it is considered to be the keeper of all knowledge. The most important part of Crocodile’s message is that we must look for every opportunity to ingest new knowledge and wisdom ourselves.  We are invited to generate patience as this is the beginning of a period of growth and regeneration so take time to breathe and stay balanced through the changes.

Essential Oil – Black Pepper

Black Pepper essential oil is a great way to relieve feelings of anxiety.  Place a few drops in a diffuser and allow the aroma to fill your living space.  Sit quietly holding a Sodalite crystal and relax.  The feelings will lift and with the mind clear, the way forward will show itself.

Note: When you buy a new stone or crystal, it is advantageous to use it on its own first. Once you are fully aware of its energy, you may choose to combine it with other stones.  Combine stones for short periods to begin with, so you can assess what works most effectively for you.

Seeking the Truth

More and more we are seeing the truth of situations being revealed in the world.  It was predicted that in the new millennium there would be revelations in all areas of world matter and we have all witnessed it on a global and personal level over the last years.

From the year 2000 we have seen the prediction spectacularly manifesting;  the downfall of unethical business such as Enron, the Church’s historical cover up of child abuse, Julian Assange making public thousands of emails showing shady dealings with government officials and even the inaccurately report of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq which has lead the western world into a long and costly war, mainly in loss of life of men, women and children, with very little positive outcome to show for it.

sodalite-roundIndividually, we re experiencing it too with our craving for truth became stronger. We say ‘If only he/she would be honest with me. I can just feel they are not being truthful’. We question the motives of government and systems that are showing increasingly not to be in our best interests.  But more importantly, we are questioning our own truth.  There is an innate part of us that is awakening to the realisation that inner truth is the key to peace and harmony in our life and we want it!

We know deep within us that we have been living the illusion that we are not good enough, that we do not have enough or that we are not strong enough to make changes; that there is nothing we can do to change our world.  Now we are beginning to challenge the illusion and see the reality – we are strong enough and we can change our little part of the world.  If we each do it for ourselves it will spread like ripples on a pond.  It doesn’t need to be major upheaval, just little steps towards the inner truth we seek.

Can’t means Won’t

We have been taught to be afraid of failure often disguised as worrying about what others think of us.  I’m sure you remember as a child acting out in frustration and a parent saying to you ‘Stop it, people are looking. They will think you are naughty?’.  This was how the pattern started, teaching us that we were failing in some way, that we were wrong to show our feelings, of being ourselves.   A simple set of words that our parents used because they had the same pattern laid on them as children.  Similarly, they inadvertently taught us lack because that was the experience of their parents and maybe they were embarrassed by it, they tried to protect us from disappointment because they perhaps had not had the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and felt less in the eyes of others because of it; so many scenarios created out of love and fear.   As parents we all want to be seen as effective and how our children behave and what they achieve is an indication to the world that this is this case and therefore we and they become acceptable.  And we all want to be acceptable!

Every time you hear yourself think or say ‘I can’t’, challenge it.  Ask yourself ‘Can I?’  or ‘Am I afraid to try?’.  We know we are capable of anything because we only have to look back over our lives and remember the challenges we have faced.  The basic things like learning to walk – we’d never done it before yet we stood up and kept trying until we got it right.  We all experienced that first day of school; going to a place we had never been and having to leave our family to stay with strangers.  It was, for many, a traumatic experience yet we overcame it, we learned to cope with the unknown.  And what about learning to drive a car?  Do you remember having to learn how to reverse around a corner?   Did you get it right the first time?  No, you just kept trying until you got it right and each time you got it wrong it was a step towards mastering it.

This is the truth we seek; the fact that we are enough, we can do anything we put our mind to and we always have the necessary strength to take us through to the end.  We are good people, amazingly strong and fantastic and what we each bring to the world is a unique pattern of experience that adds to the whole. Best of all, it is our ‘mistakes‘ that make us who we are, that guide us through difficult times and act as inspiration for others.  So, are they mistakes or just another enlightening experience?

Crystals for Energy Alignment

My first go to reviver is Clear Quartz.  A small tumbled or rough piece placed in a glass, a jug or drinking bottle energises the water – check it out with your pendulum.  Dowse the water before and after and see the difference.  When you drink the water it energises the body cells.

Only use Clear Quartz in drinking water as some crystals are highly toxic in liquid.

The following crystals I would place against my skin; either sticky taped to it or supported by tight underclothing.

Sodalite is a great crystal to stimulate the mental body and bring order and organisation to our thoughts and words.  It is especially helpful in counteracting feelings of confusion or disorientation that can occur due to the shifting energies we are experiencing at the moment.  As our life around us changes we can experience a wide range of emotions including stress, anxiety, fear, guilt and anger. Beautiful blue Sodalite has a peaceful and relaxing quality that can calm challenging emotional states and help to relax an overactive mind by slowing down excessive mental activity.  As an extra benefit it can also alleviate insomnia.

Use Bloodstone to strengthen and support your physical body, energetic structure and attitude to the shifting energies.   Bloodstone gives a rejuvenating quality that can support you through a health crisis and speed up the healing of any physical symptoms you are experiencing.  It is especially helpful if you are feeling fatigued, exhausted, and drained.  It is a grounding stone and brings in a sense of stability at best and at worst a sense that everything is OK, even if it doesn’t feel that way!

Three other crystals that would be a mainstay for any energy alignment would be Citrine to stimulate the Immune System to fight of bugs that may wish to join the low energy party, Rose Quartz to balance the heart and mind allowing us the permission to go inward to rest and recover and Amethyst to connect to that part of us that has been neglected which knows we are loveable and deserving of life’s gifts.  Don’t we often forget that?

Crystals have been recorded throughout time as used for healing and they are still used for their qualities in laser treatment, watches, computers and mobile phones.  So you see nothing is new.

If you would like more information on crystals and how they work please feel free to contact us.

Obviously where there is concern over health, it is recommended to check it out with your GP.

Detachment

Last year was a year of endings and the energy of new beginnings kicked in around September.   You maybe feeling the sense of wishing to change things in your life – a job, a home, a situation – and that is simply the death and rebirth cycle we all experience periodically.  The January New Moon in Aquarius was a definite starting point for setting the wheels in motion. Aquarius energy is all about starting fresh, thinking outside of the box and finding new meaning to things.

Detachment is the way to aid this process.  When we get caught up in the details or dragged into the drama it is difficult to see things clearly. Our mind becomes clouded and we cannot break free from the fear of change.  This is how it has always been so what will happen if it changes?  Will I cope?  When we can detach from all that it is easier to see the way forward; the way that is best for our own well-being.   How many people do you know, maybe even yourself, that stay in a situation that is painful, upsetting or unhealthy because they feel they have no choice?  They fear the outcome of making a stand and changing the situation.   Well, detachment gives you back the power of choice and helps you to move forward again.  With a clear mind you can see the bigger picture and view things in a new way.  Use the power and energy of this period to regain strength and resolve to see a new version of your own truth.

Crystal to help us move forward

Smoky Quartz helps you us achieving our full potential. It helps to release all the blocked, old and stagnant energy in our body. Once all of the old energy is removed, new energy is able to fill all the open space with light and hope.

Citrine  helps us to develop a positive attitude. It encourages us to go with the flow and let go of anything from the past that is creating unhappiness. It promotes the enjoyment of new things and experiences.

Carnelian is the stone of individuality, creativity and courage. It encourages an awareness of the connection between our emotional state and our state of being.  Carnelian dissolves fear, helps us to trust ourselves and our perceptions, and boosts self-confidence.

Crystals that Help Develop Intuition

Crystals for Intuition

The prime candidate here has to be Lapis Lazuli.  It has been used throughout history to bring inner peace, freedom from negativity, activation of the higher mind, and enhancing the desire for truth.  More about Lapis Lazuli

Clear Quartz is   highly recommended for intuitive development as it is a powerful amplifier.  To increase your ability to ‘hear’, ‘see’ or ‘feel’ intuitively, think of yourself as a receiver, like a mast or satellite dish. The messages are there, but you may not be able hear them clearly. Clear Quartz amplifies their energy so they are more easily heard. Clear quartz also amplifies the qualities of the other crystals.

Labradorite is helpful for self-discovery, intuition and awakening our awareness of inner guidance.  Labradorite is a great grounding crystal

Fluorite increases conscious awareness, anchors intuition into the physical plane, absorbs confusion and harmonises energy. Fluorite brings mental clarity in unstable situations because it balances the chemistry of the brain.

And finally, an old favourite Moonstone.  This gently feminine crystal connects us to the power of the Moon enhancing the natural intuition within every woman.    It really opens our mind to intuition and balances the ‘down talk’ of doubt.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is one of the most sought after stones in use since man’s history began. Its deep, celestial blue remains the symbol of royalty and honour, gods and power, spirit and vision. It is a universal symbol of wisdom and truth.

In ancient times Lapis Lazuli was most highly regarded because of its beautiful colour and the valuable ultramarine dye derived from it.  It is obtained from Egypt, which has the oldest mines in the world, worked from around 4000 B.C. and still in use today. Ancient Egyptians believed the soul existed in the mind and was housed in the brain and Lapis blue was a mental healer and soul purifier, It was used in burial ornaments of Egyptian kings and queens and used extensively in scarabs, pendants and other jewellery.  It was also ground into powder for dyes, eye shadow and medicinal elixirs.

Physical Well-being

Lapis works with the throat, larynx, and vocal chords.

Emotional/Mental Well-being

Lapis is a stone of friendship and brings harmony in relationships, enhancing calm and loving communication.  It is excellent for stimulating wisdom and good judgement in the practical world.

  • activates the higher mind
  • aids the process of learning
  • enhances intellectual ability and memory
  • stimulates the desire for knowledge, truth and understanding
  • encourages deep communication and honesty in both the spoken and written word
  • allows suppressed emotions and memories to surface
  • helps to diminish repressed anger releasing the underlying cause of illness
  • encourages self-expression and the qualities of honesty and compassion
  • provides an awareness of one’s motivations and beliefs
  • gives a clearer perspective of our opportunities for growth and to utilise our gifts and abilities.

Colour                                                                                                                                                                 The energy  of Lapis Lazuli’s dark blue colour is perfect for enhancing respect and compassion within ourselves. Dark blue crystals teach us humanity, discretion, and honour. They help us act more charitably and focus our efforts on service to others by generating within us grace, sensitivity to the needs of others  and tenderness in our approach.

Meditation with Lapis Lazuli                                                                                                                       Lapis Lazuli is a visionary stone, bringing information in images rather than words. It can be a catalyst for higher awareness and often aids recovery of memories of past lives from ancient civilisations to help regain lost knowledge and inspire evolution in the current incarnation.

Lapis Lazuli has a very strong, full on energy and is best used by adults or in the home rather than directly with young children as their frequencies are more subtle.  Stick to Rose Quartz and Blue Lace Agate

The Light Colour Healing Principle

We were out walking the dog last year when my husband decided for some strange reason that she needed to learn to jump and that he would demonstrate the idea.  There was a pole close by that was used for horse practice; a horizontal telegraph pole so not particularly high.  He took off at a run and as he leapt so the highly confused and excited dog shot through his legs and he fell.  He landed on the pole with a very loud crack and I was sure he had broken a hip at least.  A lady was walking about 100 metres away and she heard the noise and came running.  Husband lay very still, dog still thinking he was playing,  afraid to move because he was also sure he had broken at least his ribs.  When he finally got up he was sore but nothing broken.  I covered the area with Arnica ointment and the next day there was no bruise but it was too painful to touch the skin.  We used the Light colour machine for 9 minutes and the area that he could reach became completely pain free although where he could not reach was still very sore.  Because of the difference my sceptical mate could not doubt that it had worked wonderfully.  Painful way to prove a point but that is the way of the sceptic!

I have used Colour Light Therapy over the years and found it to have amazing healing abilities.  It can be used for any condition with beneficial effects.

An old tried and tested method

Light and colour has been used for healing for millennia by many different cultures.  Recorded history takes us right back to the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians where they separated the colour and used each one with light to heal different conditions. The healers discovered that light passing through coloured fabric or glass had the ability to speed up the healing process.

Those working with plant life have found that light in the form of specific colours gives vegetables, fruits and herbs their nutritional and nourishing qualities as colour is the active ingredient in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in those foods. Research with plants also indicates how coloured light affects plant health; when specific colours of plastic sheeting are placed on the soil around the plants, pests can be discouraged and plant growth and flavour are enhanced.

Native cultures also discovered that the colour of plants determined their healing qualities; for example, blood conditions were treated with red flowers and herbs.  Experiments today with red and blue light show that red will increase blood pressure while blue light reduces it.  The same applies to those colours when shone on the soles of the feet to regulate weight; it has shown that red reduces weight while blue increases it.  Hmm, I do love blue so maybe that’s the answer and it’s not the chocolate at all!

So why does it work?

The relationship between light and health begins in our eyes. When light enters the eyes, it travels through the brain directly to the body’s ‘biological clock’ located within the brain’s brain known as the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus shares the light-activated information it receives with the body’s master gland, the Pineal, which regulates our vital functions by linking the nervous and endocrine systems. Acting as the body’s light meter, the pineal gland communicates data about the time of day, time of year, spectral characteristics and the earth’s electromagnetic field to every cell of the body simultaneously. In doing so, each cell orchestrates its internal function in line with the ever-changing flow of Nature.

We each have a natural receptivity to certain frequencies of coloured light and a resistance to others.  When applied through the eyes and the skin, coloured light has been shown to positively affect the mind and body function to recalibration with the true basis of our health and wellness.  It has been shown to have a huge beneficial effect for depression and is used extensively for Seasonal Affective Disorder, SAD Syndrome where the lack of light in the winter in many countries cause another form of depression.

Light is nourishment to the body

We are made of  light and light is the language by which our cells speak to one another. The DNA within the centre of the nucleus of each cell of the body emits photons (light). When this light reaches the crystalline structure of the cell wall, it is greatly amplified. The light radiated from the cell naturally congregates with similar cells because they share the same frequency. These groups of cells form organs and the other structures in our body, each resonating with a specific frequency and colour. So our cells are crystallized light!

Light stimulates and supports the important endocrine system as well as the immune system and organs of the body. The visible spectrum, the rainbow colours, as well as infrared and ultraviolet   light are essential for the complete health of the body  but when we are outside, we are told we must wear glasses and sun screen. Sensible advice, of course, but these block some portion of the full spectrum of light which starves a part of our body.  So, it is necessary to take in sunlight through the eyes every day; not gazing at   direct sunlight just wear a hat to create shade and take off those sunglasses for just 20 minutes a day!

So how can we help our body to receive enough full spectrum light?

A simple way you can do for yourself is to replace just one bulb in a lamp in your home with a full spectrum light bulb and sit within its range of light while you are watching TV or reading.  A normal bulb which no blue, dark blue or purple shades whilst the full spectrum bulb gives the body the benefits of the whole colour range.

Another option is a Colour Light Therapy session.  I have used it to get rid of sinus, aching joints, headaches, bruises and, even when I feel ‘’under the weather’ for no particular reason, it perks me up immediately by releasing the feel-good hormone Serotonin.

We are lucky to have Andrew Barrett at The Purple Dragonfly who, by using a colour light machine that shines light through coloured filters and/or crystals, can bring your body back to good health through natural means.  Not only does the process keep your body balanced it aids with the dissipation of pain and many other symptoms.  His one hour sessions benefit your health and are deeply relaxing.  Why not give it a try!

Crystals for Releasing Anger

Many people believe that anger is a negative emotion that should be suppressed at all costs.  This belief arises from a confusion.  Most of us confuse normal healthy anger with rage which is negative, destructive and unhealthy emotion because, at some point, as children, we will have experienced a parent or carer display rage and we have been frightened by it or we have expressed frustration and been punished for it.   Therefore, we learn very quickly to hold anger in which has a devastating effects on our health and well-being.

Anger is the messenger that tells us we are experiencing underlying emotions such as fear, anxiety, shock, pain or jealousy.  It is an important and necessary emotion as it allows us to develop boundaries and tells us that we are not comfortable with being treated disrespectfully, or that someone is invading our space or overriding our opinion.  It is important to immediately express those feelings kindly and gently.  It is counterproductive to leave it to stew and then yell and scream; we are then considered as unreasonable or unstable and our feelings are discounted.  However, if we speak out immediately by saying ‘That is an interesting opinion and I hear what you are saying.  However, it doesn’t sit well with me as I feel ….’ or ‘What do you mean when you say…… because I am feeling undermined by that and I am sure that can’t be the case’.  No-one will take exception to calmly stated statements such as that that and your voice will be heard.

Obviously, we have applied the ‘put up and shut up’ approach for most of our life so now we have a new habit to break.  Does it ever end?  Well, just know it is just a learned response and, as well as you learned it, it you can unlearn it.  All it takes is practice and a little help.  The first time you say ‘No’, without using the word ‘No’ of course, you will feel nervous to say the least.

When asked to do something, you don’t want to do, you can say ‘Oh I wished I had known earlier because of course I would help you but I have an appointment at that time which I cannot break.  However, I can see you on Tuesday at the local café and we can have a chat then’.

There you have it!  You have said ‘No’ without using the word and put forward what you are willing to do at a time that suits you.  How easy was that?  The other person is so busy looking forward to the Tuesday catch-up that they forget what they wanted in the first place, you’re off the hook and everyone is happy.
