What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient hands-on healing modality that energies and rebalances the mind, body, spirit and emotions.  By restoring this balance, Reiki increases vitality and enhances the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means ‘God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power’ and Ki which is ‘life force energy’.   So Reiki is actually ‘spiritually guided life force energy’.

Originating in Japan in the mid 1800’s, when Dr Mikao Usui, began a 10-year quest to find and learn the ancient art of healing.   Dr Usui sought the information through Buddhism however history is varied and sketchy and the true story is lost in time.  This does not however reduce the profound effectiveness of this gentle healing art.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion; there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.   Many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their personal faith rather than having merely an intellectual concept of it.

What can it address?

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

What will I experience?

In a Reiki session you remain fully clothed.  You will lie comfortably on a bed and the practitioner will relax you with gentle music.  As the session starts the practitioner will lay their hands on your body in various positions throughout the hour session.  With each movement you will feel increasingly relaxed and in some cases a client has been known to go into a deep meditative state or even go to sleep.

As the session ends you will be allowed to ‘gather yourself’ gently and will be given a glass of water to drink.

What must I do?

Following a Reiki session it is advised that you relax for a while and drink plenty of water.   You may wish to book a series of sessions or even learn Reiki so that you can practice for yourself and your family.

Reiki 1 & 2 Certificated Courses are carried out over 2 full days.    Included is a training manual, certification & full practice in the art of Reiki.  There is ongoing support and & a practice group.
