The Importance of Change

The Importance of Change

As we experience so many different changes in life, it can be unsettling to say the least.  My mind questions constantly.  “What is the point of all this?”  “Where is life heading?”  “Will I be able to cope with the changes?”  You know the sort of thoughts I mean, the ones that escape when you are not looking, that whirl around in your head until you can’t think sensibly or straight.

I try to find the common practical sense and the spiritual growth that is supposed to accompany this type of transition.    We are told we are experiencing the rebirth of the Earth, the rising up of the feminine energy that is within each human being, irrespective of gender.  She is revitalising and reactivating and, as the Earth is being reborn, so are we.

Apparently, we are witnessing the dissolution of outdated and purposeless 3-dimensional patterns and traditions, with the changes we are seeing around us simultaneously happening  within us, on every level.   Everything is rapidly moving towards the much higher 5-dimentional vibration.  However, we humans prefer the status quo and naturally resist change, beneficial or otherwise.

Intense change is hugely challenging to most people. We refuse to let go of the old that has been part of our life for so long: old pain, hurt, anger, resentment, trauma – the list goes on.  This is the story, the illusion we create and, while we hold on, we can never be free nor can we transition into that higher frequency.  We become the prisoner of our pain and cannot see the opportunity that change and moving forward brings.

This push-pull situation, with the push to change counterbalanced by the pull to remain in the old paradigm, takes time and energy.  It creates a distraction from what is really happening and the amazing life we could create for ourselves, if only we could be willing to ‘go with the flow’.  The idea of swimming against the stream is nonsensical and does not serve any purpose at all; pointless and exhausting.  Similarly, resistance causes us to get stuck in the mind, refusing to listen to our heart and gut.    We try to rationalise what is happening and to fit it into our very limited understanding of the bigger picture, the universal laws of cause and effect and the beauty of change.

Change is the only constant.  Nothing around us stays the same; time moves, day and night, the seasons, our babies become difficult teenagers and then delightful adults with children of their own. Nature changes: the seasons, birth, life and death, all natural and accepted by us as the norm, yet when it comes to our own life, we do all we can to stay in sameness.  Think of the money spent on anti-aging for a start, instead of seeing the lines as the road map of our experience!!

This line of thinking limits us, dulls the mind and locks us into tunnel vision.  If we can’t see it, then it doesn’t exist.  However, think how we would cope if we followed what we were taught at school.  Over time, all we were taught, especially in science and history, is slowly but surely being disproved and, in many cases, the origins of the ideas are being proved to be correct.  What has been believed and taught is being challenged and those beliefs are giving away to something more open and full-consciousness.

We are not learning about consciousness; we are remembering it.  We already know what is correct for our mind, body and spirit, it is deep in our cellular and subconscious memory. It has simply been overlaid throughout our life by the beliefs and teachings of others.

This was our original birthright, our freewill,  but over our many lives – or even just this one,  dependent upon personal belief - we have given away our power to others and, through lack of use, what we know has subsided deeply into our subconscious to become an implicit memory.  Metaphorically, it is stored in a vast library of books written by others.  They sit there waiting for an event to open them up and trigger a reaction of any one of the authors. A reaction that will surprise us and ultimately undermine us, affecting every level of our being, because it is not based in our personal story but that of another.

So, what is the purpose of this rebirth?

Again, the ancient teachings tell us about Lemuria, the first civilisation on earth originating from the Pleiades and located in what is now known as Hawaii.  The inhabitants were fulfilled beings with everything they needed, because they knew how to manifest effectively from 7-dimentional awareness.    They foresaw their own end and took their teachings around the planet before their world was consumed by water. With the fall of Lemuria, and later of Atlantis, human consciousness also fell back into 3-dimensional awareness, the dimension where illusion and struggle exist. With a much lower vibratory rate comes slow density, where all existence is seen as solid matter and our only reality is what we can feel, see and touch.

When we look at this, we can see our purpose is to remember and regain what we lost back then.  As we raise our vibration, we resonate with cosmic consciousness rather than a limited human perception.  The purpose of life is simply that – to en-lighten our being and restore the birthright of our Soul knowing.    As our vibration raises, so the output of the light from our cells increases, reinstating the higher levels of our light body energy.  We then resonate through our heart centre and connect deeply to our Soul.   As our Soul holds infinite wisdom, knowing, compassion, love and light, through that knowledge we connect to all dimensions.  This state is called Super consciousness and is true mastery.

At this point, physical forms hold no attachment.  We no longer crave for material belongings seeing only love as necessary.  We stand for what we feel is the authentic truth without fear of ridicule or separation.  We are as one with ourselves and all that is.  The true state of the Soul is being in the here and now, knowing that all existence is in that one eternal moment,  in multiple dimensions and that a physical body is a mere vehicle for a moment in time.

As the Earth is reborn into a higher frequency, we are moving with her.  As our consciousness shifts in the 5th dimension, this is our opportunity to participate in the great lesson of mastery.  Here we will regain all the expressions of  freedom, equality, abundance and creativity that we knew once long ago  and, from this new base frequency, increasingly higher frequencies of consciousness, wisdom, and understanding will continue to manifest within us all.

Now is the time to be practical and take action.  Clear out any outdated possessions, thoughts, feelings, stories, release all that is no longer of Light or for your highest good.  Let go anything that does not match the new vibration you are bringing forth into your own consciousness.

Through raising our own vibration, we are each responsible for our part in ushering forth the higher vibrations and one by one we will light up the world.

Thoughts on Aging

God's Plan for Ageing

As the years advance, we often find that exercise is too much effort, preferring to read or take a gentle stroll in the garden.  However, it seems there is another plan going on behind the scenes!

Wisely God decreed that seniors become forgetful so they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things thus doing more walking.

And God saw that it was a good plan

Then God saw another need. Wisely, he made seniors lose coordination, so they would drop things, requiring them to bend, reach and stretch.

And God saw that it was  a good plan.

Then God considered the function of bladders and decided seniors would have additional calls of nature, requiring more trips to the bathroom, thus providing even more exercise.

And God saw that it  a good plan.

So, if you find as you age, you are getting up and down more, remember it's  God's will. It is all in your best interest, even though you mutter under your breath.

What’s in a Word?

What's in a Word?

Over the last decades, thousands of books have been written about how words can improve our life.  We know that positive words change our brainwave patterns and therefore how we feel – positive thinking and all that – but what about the use language to subtly influence our way of thinking without us even realising it?

We may think that ‘words don’t matter’, but they do.  Words can be used to be open and informative but equally, as a covert tool to influence opinion.    Using emotive language can alter another’s interpretation, and therefore their perception, to ensure that information comes across more positively or negatively dependant on the desire of the influencing body.

These figures of speech can frame our opinion without us even realising it is happening. Let’s face it, we only have to listen to the various news channels, and their version of the same incident, to see that in action.

Alternative or Complementary?

‘The natural healing force in each of us is the greatest force in getting well’
Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine)

I have worked for many years in the Natural Health field and have been privileged to witness a growing movement towards people wanting more control over their health choices, but language was, and is, noticeably and consistently used to influence people’s attitude towards holistic modalities.  To aid free health choices, I have always felt it important to understand and promote the difference between Alternative and Complementary treatments, which are often lumped together but are, in fact, distinctly different.

In the past, the media and references from mainstream medicine, almost always referred to Alternative Medicine in a vaguely dismissive tone, cleverly and subtly implying the insanity of ditching the conventional medical approach in favour of dangerous weirdness.  Of course, this is not what natural health is about.  Not even an holistic practitioner’s first thought would be for a healer if they had broken a bone; they would want immediate medical attention to reset the bone and probably the pain relief to go with it.  Then, they would use natural methods to work with their body to complete the healing!  A combined approach which seems logical to me.

Surely then, the more suitable terminology for this combination is Complementary, the term used by practitioners and governing bodies alike, referring to healing practices and products that work in conjunction with traditional medicine.  Complementary health methods encourage us to learn about our individual systems,  to understand our physical and emotional needs and respond accordingly, before a condition manifests, whilst also working in conjunction with pharmaceuticals where necessary.

Today, more research is being carried out to prove the efficacy of complementary modalities, driven I believe, by the increasing number of people wanting choices in their own health. More doctors are showing an interest in, and an understanding of, natural modalities and, as a result, there has been a shift towards a third category - Integrative Medicine - combining Alternative and Complementary treatments with Western medical treatments.      This approach works with the individual on all levels; to find the underlying cause of illness, to determine alternatives to pharmaceuticals where possible and using complementary modalities to activate the body’s own ability to heal itself and reduce physical, emotional and mental stress.  In this way, the patient feels empowered to be part of their healing process and learns how to work with their body to permanently improve their overall health.

In the 1990’s, we were privileged to visit an entire hospital wing in Louisiana, run by a medical doctor and dedicated totally to natural practices.  Doctors were referring their patients from all over the USA to this facility, which at that time was truly cutting edge.  Now, Integrative Centres are wide-spread, promoting Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Kinesiology, which are accepted into healthcare systems world-wide. They encourage strategies for stress reduction, a major cause of illness, including Meditation and Art and Sound Therapies.  They incorporate the power of Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Massage and Reflexology for body framework correction and Energy Medicine in the form of Healing, Qi Gong, Vibrational Medicine and Colour/Light Therapy.  All are becoming widely accepted as vital components to attaining good health by utilising ‘the natural healing force within’.

Despite the massive changes in attitude I have witnessed since the 1960’s, there is still a long way to go before we each fully embrace the idea of integrative health and to know that we have the ability to positively affect our own health in so many ways.  I do believe, however, that over time, the sheer weight of people’s desire for choice will drive forward more research into natural health.  Then, we will all fully recognise, understand and trust integrative health, giving us the powerful ingredients to develop our own unique holistic recipe to wellness.

Out of the Mouths….

Out of the Mouths .....

Out of the mouths..How important it is to slow down, take time to reflect and engage in some of the activities we set aside because we are ‘too busy’ rolling out our normal routine.  Over this last couple of years, we had the opportunity to reflect on our lives and the importance of taking time to allow ourselves space to do what  brings us joy, connects us to nature and clears our mind.  We have even taken the opportunity to have some deep conversations with our children.

Many appear to have wisdom beyond their years and, rather than in my day when children were seen and not heard, a conversation can provide some insight into this new wave of kids.

We live as a three generational family and so there is plenty of time to watch our youngsters blossom and grow.  It also provides me with time for some good conversations with my 11-year-old granddaughter. Elyssa, like her mum, is and always has been a source of inspiration to me with her smiling eyes and her thought provoking words.  I realised this about her when bringing her home from kinder one day and, out of the silence she asked, “How old is God and where does She live? These are not conversations we have at home, so I should have guessed that this was just the beginning.

She asks many questions as she puzzles her way through life, obviously confused by the some of the adult approaches she witnesses;  “Why are people mean to each other when there is so much to love about them?” and “How sad to see people with no homes, when I have a lovely warm bed.  Why is that?”   This from a child in an adult world that is more concerned with being busy to get more stuff! The very stuff we spend time clearing out once we no longer see a need or purpose for them.

I asked her about life and how she sees it.

My opening question was “Why do people do bad things?”

“Some people do not behave well because they cannot see their own light.  The light is the happy, kind part of you that is inside, it’s in your heart.  Some people feel it and some just know it.  If they don’t know about it, they can still feel it, like a warm blanket that wraps around them.  Maybe when people are cold to others, they can’t feel the warm from the light inside. I don’t know why people do bad stuff because they will always get found out and it makes other people sad".

What about people in general?

"I like people because they are kind and they are my friends and if they’re not my friends it’s just because I haven’t met them. I love my family and I feel sorry for people who are alone, because they don’t get the chance to live their life with the love and support of a family.  Family is a special sort of love but if you don’t have a family, you must find other people in your life to love or you won’t feel loved.  Pets give us love, so I’m not very happy about people who hurt animals.  We should think that they have a life too so, we should treat them kindly and never ever hurt them".

What about caring and sharing?

"I think people should have enough of what they need to be able to live a healthy and happy life.  We should share what we don’t need so everyone has enough.  I think that we should look after the ocean as it is full of rubbish and plastics and that kills the fish.  The land is the same, we drop rubbish and some people kill animals for fun and not for food.  We have to teach people rather than punish them.  If we teach them, they might understand that the world will die if we don’t look after it”.

What would be your big question?

Her biggie was fascinating, “I just need to know this, because I've always wondered, what came first the chicken or the egg.  It’s so interesting because no-one has the answer. Did whoever make the world, make an egg and was surprised that a chicken came out or did they make the chicken that then laid the egg?   But if I did know the answer I suppose it would take away the magic, like the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.  We have to have magic; it makes us happy and it is fun.   Life is magical because it has a lot of stuff in it that makes us think.  There is a lot in life that is magical – pretty much everything actually.  That’s my thoughts for now”.

And off she went, to play with the dog.

These children will become the world changers as they grow into adulthood and, with this foundation of wisdom, how phenomenal they will be.  Insightful isn’t?

The Natural Law of Flow

The Natural Flow of Life

I was looking at my family photographs recently and found some of a favourite aunt, both as a young woman and as an old lady.  In one, she was holding her son, my only cousin.  My mind floated back to many incidents where they had been at loggerheads over some trivial incident or another.  Of course, to her they were not trivial at the time; it was only later that she viewed it with regret.   In those days, punishment for bad behaviour was more stringent than it seems to be today and I remember her being so angry with him – this truculent, challenging late teenager ,who would push her buttons deliberately and stir up an argument between her and his father as often as he could.

At the time, that is what she thought she had – time.  She thought that things would stay just as they were, yet the evidence of impermanence was there; this little baby of hers was now a surly adolescent.  She remained the ‘actively involved’ parent, always wanting him to live in the way she thought was best, yet she did not have a happy marriage or fulfilled her own dreams in many ways. In fact, according to her mother, my grandmother, she was equally challenging as a young woman.  She was there with her opinions throughout my cousins’ apprenticeship, marriage, parenting, divorce and remarriage.  She shifted her allegiance depending on his compliance to her wishes – he continued to rebel.

Finally, she outlived him; she struggled with the pain and sorrow, but she lived the rest of her life with a philosophical attitude.  She wished so many times she had been closer to him and had done it so differently. My observations of her journey gave me so much more understanding; when to be supportive and when to leave it alone, to choose my battles, to always act in a way that does not leave a feeling of guilt and, most importantly, that nothing stays the same.

I realised that  our deep concerns of today, will merely merge into our life tomorrow.  We believe in the idea that what Is today, will still Be tomorrow, but it isn’t.    Our perception of stability is an illusion: everything is variable, temporary and constantly changing.  So many people, men especially, believe they are defined by the job they do; sadly society has created that within them.  Many are often more loyal with their time to the company than they are to their own family, yet the company will retrench them without a second thought if it works in their favour.  We see it constantly in News programmes that yet another company has ‘slim lined’ their work force for the sake of profitability.

No matter how hard we try to future proof our lives, nothing can stay the same or last forever. Everything follows the simple laws of nature –  that there must be constant flow.  A river flows, finding its way across the earth, unerringly heading towards the sea.  It forges a path that twists and turns to suit the lie of the land but, if that flow is blocked, it becomes static with a completely different identity; it become a dam.

Our denial of that basic truth is the reason we become confused, even scared. We suffer because we are projecting the myth of permanence upon a situation that is conditioned to constant change.   Everything is interrelated and interdependent and it’s the nature of evolving to come together and fall apart to come again to rise to new heights.

It is human nature to always want; to look for the new. To see this in ourselves, we only have to observe a very young child constantly move from one thing to the next,  As we travel further on life's journey, the outcome becomes less important and we  value more the little moments that make our heart sing.

Vetiver Essential Oil

Vetiver Essential Oil

Vetiver essential oil, also called khus oil, is extracted from a perennial grass native to tropical regions in Asia, botanical name, Vetiveria zizanioides (Linn) Nash.  It is in the same family of plants that produces lemongrass and citronella.

The oil is distilled from the roots of the plant, which are aged before being soaked in water. The highly concentrated oil that is released is then skimmed off the top of the water.

With its rich, exotic, complex and earthy aroma,  Vetiver oil  has historically  been used extensively in perfumes.    Ayurvedic practices  also respected Vetiver for its spiritually inspiring aroma and for its remedial qualities. Accordingly, it was used to address countless health concerns including imbalances in psychosomatic temperament, arthritis and other joint disorders, muscular aches, headaches, fevers, loss of energy, heat strokes, and skin problems.   Vetiver Essential Oil  became an integral part of Ayurvedic massages for its additional abilities to strengthen the nervous system by sedating the senses and thereby reducing the stress and physical exhaustion linked to low immunity. Its refreshing properties also made it ideal for cooling high body temperatures during hot seasons

Benefits of Vetiver:
  • soothes anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, depression and inability to concentrate or remember.
  • is a natural antioxidant that promotes relief from various types of inflammation. Its tonic properties are reputed to show regenerative effects as they enhance and maintain immunity.
  • has antiseptic properties that eliminate and prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.
  • enhances circulation, boosts the metabolism and digestion, eases muscular aches, and soothes joint pain.

4 Uses for Vetiver:

Diffusing 5 drops of Vetiver Essential Oil for 30-60 minutes and deeply inhaling the aroma can be beneficial for relieving or reducing stress, as well as the symptoms of a headache.

Vetiver aids focus and memory, so is especially useful in a study or workroom.  Diffuse or make a spritz  in a 120ml spray bottle by adding 10-15 drops of Vetiver Essential Oil, 1 tbsp witch hazel to keep the water sanitised and top up with water.

Put 3 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil and apply to the soles of your feet at night, especially the big toe as this is a Vita Flex point to the brain.   Also, rub the same mix on your wrists during the day.  As your intention is to be grounded, the idea and the aroma linked together enter the limbic area of the brain to remind it to keep you in balance.  The limbic system is involved with our behavioural and emotional responses, especially those connected to our survival and wellness.  (You can make up the mix in larger amounts using the same ratios).

Its antiseptic properties make Vetiver Oil an ideal cleanser or moisturising toner when 3-4 drops are added to a tablespoon of Virgin Coconut Oil. A small amount of this blend can be wiped gently across the face on a cottonwool pad to clean the pores of impurities and  stimulate collagen production.

Listen to the Stillness

Listen to the Stillness

The main question to ask about our use of intuition is “Do I follow my own sense of knowing ordo I look outside of myself for direction and affirmation?  We must remember that when anyone offers their guidance, they are giving an opinion based on what they would do if they were us, with our set of life experiences, our emotional intelligence and our unique purpose for this life time.  But clearly they cannot know us at that deep level, so their opinion can only be based in their own framework of experience and  fears generated by our situation.

For example, take the case of a woman deciding to end her marriage.  If she asks everyone she knows what she should do, she will get very many different answers. There will be those that are in similar circumstances but are too afraid to take that final step – their answer, NO.  There are those that have made the choice and will want to feel vindicated in their decision by seeing others in the same boat – their answer, YES. There will be those that feel affronted by the behaviour of the partner and want some type of payback yet they fear the lack of financial and social support – their answer, NO. There will be family members who may have known the partner for some time, some my love him and others may not, so here the answer will be mixed – YES and NO.  Then there are others who may feel there will be an impact on their life through some perceived idea of added responsibility to help out in some way, either practically or financially.  Again, there will be those that are attracted in to the situation because they love to feel needed and others that do not want to get involved.

So many viewpoints, so many variables, that it is clear to see that there is only one outcome that this type of external advice can possibly achieve –  Chaotic Thinking!  This is the time to step away, go outside and breathe.  Time to find inner peace and quiet,    a sense of calm understanding and,  most importantly, a moment of  absolute and pure clarity!

The Law of Intuition shows us that it is very important to live with integrity and authenticity because there is a fine line between getting useful feedback and using it to develop ourselves constructively or, on the other hand, feeling at the mercy of other’s opinions.  When we are constantly examining whether we are on the right track as defined by someone else or are sensitive to criticism, we expend a lot of mental and emotional energy.  This effort will block us from our intuition, our inner voice.

By ignoring our intuition, we begin to lack a clear identity and we begin to define ourselves by what others think and their attitudes and feelings towards us.  As it is impossible to be certain how they see or feel about us, we fill in the gaps from our imagination fuelled by our insecurities.

When we do not have a clearly defined ‘knowing’ of our true essence then others will decide for us and we feel at the mercy of their thoughts. Using our intuition gives us the mastery of taking other people’s input and using it as a balance rather than being disempowered by their opinions.   As we tap into our intuition with integrity, we learn how to translate perceived criticism as constructive feedback and use that to work on our way forward rather than let it destroy our confidence in our own ability to make effective decisions.  After all, when someone voices their opinion concerning our behaviour or choices, they are merely a reflecting back to themselves.

A useful statement, provided by Dan Millman, supporting our use of our own intuition reads as follows –

‘As I stop monitoring other’s opinions, I connect with my own hearts’ wisdom.
What others think of me is really none of my business as I have an inspired, emotional connection with my own inner voice.

I give authority to my quiet inner voice which is the only opinion that ultimately has any value to me.

I contact the centre of my feeling and then I can listen to other’s opinions without losing sight of my own intuition.
My intuition is the place from which I determine what is best for my own life and I let others do the same.
I make use of other’s vies without being dependant upon them.
I don’t resist, ignore or seek others opinions, but rather listen to and acknowledge them,
take what is useful, submitting all views to the wisdom of my own heart.

Next time others have opinions about who I am or what I am doing,
I can thank them for sharing, acknowledge their opinion and let them know
‘Here is who I am, here is what I need, here is what I am doing’
.

The Wise Owl

The Wise Old Owl

Owl is the epitome of the observer, with incredible vison and eye for detail and perfect hearing, it silently swoops in the dark and secret places of this world.  This represents within us our abilities of insight and intuition and our deep connection to wisdom, knowledge and good judgement. Owl energy helps us to navigate any darkness in life, bringing clarity, prophetic visions and a strong connection with the mystical world.

Owl will show us things that might otherwise remain hidden and, at times we need courage to see things in a whole new way. So, Owl energy encourages to open our eyes to look deep into the shadows.  It is connected to discernment, opening the doorway to seeing the soul inside the body, taking us beyond the illusion of the human mind, to see the truth within all people. In this way, we can reach our higher self and see people and situation from a spiritual perspective.

When we see this new way of dealing with people or situations that challenge our inner harmony, it pushes us to release old habits of thinking and take the opportunity to create a new approach to the illusions of life.   Owl energy also offers us the fascination in life’s mystery as we chart unknown territories, helping us to understand it at a deeper level and find a productive solution for every problem or situation. In this way we become wiser and stronger in our intuition than before.  Owl is silent, with its senses honed to the perfect degree, so its gift to us is to encourage introspection to see with new eyes the important layers of symbolism and meaning that previously eluded us.

In Greek mythology, Goddess Athena held owls as sacred. She is known for  her wisdom and strategy, so Owl is the perfect companion. The Celts and Egyptians regarded Owl as a gatekeeper to other realms, particularly for the souls of the dead, as they said that Owl accompanies a soul in its transition, to ensure it doesn’t get lost on its journey.

When Owl energy comes into your life, it indicates that a change or transition to a higher perspective will allows you to open the doorway to connect with your Divine Self.  Owl energy cannot be deceived, so you are reminded to be true to yourself and to your own voice and vision.  It does not tolerate delusion  or secrets, so it helps you to see behind the mask that people around you may be wearing as a protection or as a facade.  This insight helps you to see the true reality, beyond illusion and deceit.
